Extra collecte op zondag 4 oktober 2009
De afgelopen dagen zijn wij allen weer geconfronteerd met beelden uit de Filippijnen en de Pacific van wat de natuurkrachten kunnen ontketenen. En de weersverwachtingen spreken van nog meer onheil.
Uit de recent binnen gekomen berichten blijkt ook onze zusterkerk in de Filippijnen niet gespaard is voor menselijke leed en is er ook grote schade aan gebouwen en oogsten aangebracht. Zo staat de kathedraal in Manilla in het water.
De Onafhankelijk Filippijnse Kerk (IFI) tracht met de beperkte middelen zo goed mogelijk noodhulp te bieden en vluchtelingen op te vangen.
De bisschoppen roepen de pastores en de kerkbesturen op om zondag 4 oktober a.s. de getroffen Filippijnen met name in de voorbeden te gedenken en de extra collecte van die dag te bestemmen voor de noodhulp. Het zou goed zijn dit ook in afkondigingen te melden, zover dat al niet het geval is.
De Missie Sint Paulus heeft € 5000,- kunnen vrijmaken uit de reserves voor deze noodactie en de landelijke kerk kan daarbij nog € 2500,- uit de reserve Oost-Europa toevoegen. De basis is gelegd, nu is het woord aan de kerk.

CHURCH APPEALS FOR RELIEF ASSISTANCE FOR VICTIMS OF TYPHOON ONDOY
Typhoon Ondoy, that hit South-Central Luzon, including the National Capital Region, on September 26, 2009, was pre-announced by the Philippine Atmospherical, Geographical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). For most Filipinos this was not unusual, September being a monsoon month. What was unusual was the volume of rain that was brought about by Typhoon Ondoy. According to PAGASA, the volume of rain that was expected for a month poured into the affected areas in six hours. The consequence of this erratic phenomenon was widespread flooding that wrought havoc, misery, loss of life and limb, and destruction of produce and properties amounting to hundreds of millions of pesos. The picture of death and destruction has been vividly captured by TV cameras. The National Disaster Coordinating Council puts up regular news bulletin on TV and radio every hour on the hour.
The Iglesia Filipina Independiente is mounting a modest emergency program to provide relief assistance to the victims and survivors of Typhoon Ondoy. The Obispado Maximo is soliciting the material assistance from the IFI faithful in the Philippines and over the seas to enable the program to take off and extend the much needed assistance to those in dire need of the Church’s support. All grants, donations or financial assistance will be under the effective control and management of the Obispado Maximo and it will be accountable to all donors by rendering periodic reports and accounting of funds entrusted to its care.
The program intends to distribute bags of relief goods to the most needy victims of this calamity. A bag of relief goods would contain five kilos of rice, six cans of canned sardines, 10 packs of instant noodles, a pack of instant coffee, 2 kilos of sugar, one pack of salt, a can of cooking oil, a kilo of dried fish, six pieces of candles, a box of matches. The cost of goods contained per bag is approximately seven hundred pesos. When resources allow, medicine, blankets and used clothing will be added to the aforementioned relief items.
Communities that are badly hit will be the top priority in the implementation of the program, most especially where IfI parishes are located, in which case, the church will be used as the distribution center. The program will coordinate with the government and other socio-civic organizations that are undertaking relief operations in the area in order to minimize duplication of beneficiaries. This will ensure that the limited resources will be fully maximized by targeting those who have not been served by other organizations. Beneficiaries will be required to sign their names and provide basic information about their personal circumstances as the basis for follow up in the future.
